About the Position
The City of Ada is seeking a personable, creative, team-oriented, and confident leader with strong communication skills to be their next City Administrator. The Administrator sought will be actively engaged in the community as a face of City Hall and will become part of the fabric of the community
The City Administrator is appointed by the City Council and also serves as the City Clerk/Treasurer. The position exercises general and administrative supervision over all city departments and staff either directly or through subordinate supervisors/Department Heads. Is responsible for implementing the directives of the City Council and overseeing the day-to-day operations of city business.
Performs highly responsible administrative and financial work in the management of city governmental activities. Work involves planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating a variety of municipal activities as provided for and authorized by the City Council.
Essential Functions of the Position
- Develops and implements changes in organizational structure to ensure effective utilization of personnel.
- Directs all personnel matters.
- Serves and actively participates as a leader / member of the management team.
- Ensures the effective management of the City’s financial affairs.
- Attends and actively participates in all Council meetings and other meetings with official bodies as directed.
- Represents the City in various programs and community activities.
- Oversees and coordinates the work of consultants.
- Plans, budgets, organizes, and directs the activities of the City Clerk's Office.
- Performs the duties of City Clerk and City Treasurer.
- Provides effective upward and downward communication. Insures that the City Council is kept currently aware of the problems and progress of the City, as well as the economic and legislative climate which affects the City.
Qualified candidates shall possess a Bachelor’s Degree (Master’s preferred) in Public Administration or related degree and a minimum of 2 years of experience in local government as a department head, administrator, or in a professional capacity such as planner, finance officer, or other critical function. The ideal candidate must possess outstanding judgment, management, communication skills with the ability to think and act strategically.
Areas of Emphasis Include: • Budget preparation and presentation. • Public financing techniques (TIF, bonds, grants, etc.). • Experience in financial management. • Supervisory experience including performance evaluations and organization development. • Involvement in professional and community organizations. • Understands Strategic Planning/thinking. • Working knowledge of office technology. • Familiar with infrastructure repair and replacement processes
